Pyrolitic Uranium Compound (PYRUC)
PYRolitic Uranium Compound (PYRUC) is a shielding material consisting of depleted uranium UO2 or UC in either pellet or microsphere form, coated or uncoated, and combined with a solid matrix binding material. Microspherical products are formed from uranyl nitrate, treated by gelation methods. A number of binding materials are possible, e.g., tar or pitch precursor, high temperature resins.
